The Balance was the natural balance of the universe in Templar philosophy. They believed that the force and the galaxy yearned to be in a perfect harmony and that they were the guardians of that balance. To differentiate this balance from the usual idea of balace in terms of weights and scales, however, the Templars referred to this as The Balance.
