The Templar Honor Guard were an elite caste of Templars ranging from Gurei Deshi to Gurei Shishou. In addition to their standard duty as Templars of Twilight the Honor Guards served as guards of the Council Members and current and former Kages. All members in the honor guard are trained in the basics of Shield and Saber, and given a Honor Guard Shield.

The position of Honor Guard was in and of itself very special. An Honor Guard could out command another Templar, even one of normally higher rank, in situations regarding the safety of the council or another individual they were charged with protecting. This of course had its limitations, if two or more Gin Shishous or a council member chose to overrule the honor guards ruling, the honor guards commands were able to be recended.. Also an Honor Guard was the only non council member who could literally barge into the council chamber and interrupt a meeting, so long as they had a good enough reason, such as urgent news, notification of a death.

Honor Guards wore Ceremonial Honor when guarding council members and Kages on diplomatic missions and during special events. During normal situations or combat they wore a more traditional combat armor made of armored robes and cloaks.
