I changed the meaning of Mikaru to "Seed of Life." In Gamatsu, Mi means seed, and karu means to live. Mixed together, it is translated to "Seed of Life." Since guardian is kanshisha and guard is keishu, guard/guardian wouldn't have worked for the meaning.
