The Thor-class Battleship was the largest and rarest of ships produced by the Vaeringjar before they joined the Remsian Republic. The ships were massive by Vaeringjar standards, though average by more galaxy wide standards. Toping at 800 meters long she and her sister ship the Odin were the largest two military expensive of the Vaeringjar Alliance and the Dvergar Commonwealth during their histories and the Civil War.
Armament and Defenses[]
The Armament of the Thor-class was standard for all Vaeringjar ships, albeit larger and with more numerous instillations. Like all Vaeringjar ships the class was equipped with a mix of Mass Drivers and Missile Launchers, but unlike other ships, the Thor-class had four Super Heavy Mass Drivers capable of shattering smaller Vaeringjar ships in a single volley. But the most unusual aspect of the Thor-class, was that she was the first ship to use a shield system in Vaeringjar history. A large Electromagnetic shield system that while power hungry and not as effective as modern systems it was capable of deflecting and absorbing the impacts of smaller Vaeringjar ship fire.
Legacy[]
After the end of the Civil War the design of the Thor-class was studied by the Remsian Republic and the Remsian Republic Military Research and Development Division. This study lead to the development of the Oden-class Heavy Corvette and the Baldr-class Cruiser. Both classes shared design characteristics of the Thor-class with the Oden looking the most similar, but the Baldr being the closest in size.
