The RM-GS1 Brynhildr-class Assault Craft was a Remsian Republic Heavy Starfighter designed from study of the GAT-24 Skipray Blastboat used in the Second Galactic Civil War. The craft was built on a similar concept, a large, multi-crewed Starfighter, with powerful weapons designed to take on capital ships. Unlike the GAT-24 however the Brynhildr wasn't as vulnerable in dogfights, it did not however, excel at it.

The craft also shared some design principles with the Vindicator-class namely the switchblade style S-foils. While closed the craft was very streamlined and capable of boosting to a max of 180MGLT for short periods of time. While open however the craft was capable of impressive maneuvering by exposing small maneuvering thrusters. This is likely due to the concept of the Brynhildr being taken up around the time that the Vindicator-class Assault Starfighter was deemed to small to be an effective assault craft and to expensive to be produced in large numbers.

As such the Brynhildr took the place of Heavy Starfighter, between the Dagger-class Superiority Fighter and the Phoenix-class Strike Bomber. A role it filled well, but not enough to replace either fighter as the primary choice. During the Force Cold War of 100 ABY saw action during the Battle of the Anothelis Corridor and during the Battle of Remsi. During both engagements the squadrons of Brynhildrs managed to damage and even disable targets but their losses overshadowed this.

Though a capable craft, the Brynhildr was unable to find a balance point between the two roles it was designed to handle and was as such relegated to defense patrols during the remainder of the war with the Phoenix-class Strike Bomber taking its positions again as the primary assault craft of the Remsian Military. In fact after the Battle of Remsi the Brynhildr was the most often seen craft in the galaxy for the war as it conducted Republic funded patrols in the inner and outer rims due to its long range capabilities. After the war Brynhildrs received a stealth refit and began operating along side Derak-class Heavy Prowlers.

The Refit included removing the two Missile Launchers, converting them into heavy laser cannons. The spare space used to hold the Missiles, and reload systems was converted into a larger cargo area. The sleeping quarters were made more comfortable for the crew due to their extended missions. This model was called the RM-SF1 Brynhildr-class Long Range Stealth Fighter
